What is the most common art print size?

8×10 inches (20 × 25 cm) is the size people buy most often. It suits a standard wall, is easy to frame off the shelf, and works both on its own and as part of a gallery wall.

How big is a 16×24 inch print in cm?

16×24 inches is 40 × 60 cm. Framed in oak it takes up roughly 52 × 72 cm of wall, so allow at least 1.6 m of clear wall for it to breathe.

What size print should I buy for above a sofa?

As a rule of thumb, artwork above furniture should be about two-thirds the width of the furniture. Over a standard two-seater that means a 16×24 inch print, or two 12×16 inch prints hung side by side.

Do the prints come in standard frame sizes?

Yes. Every size here is a standard photographic size, so off-the-shelf frames fit if you'd rather frame it yourself. I also supply solid oak framing for €15 if you'd prefer it ready to hang.

Will my photo be cropped to fit the size?

Each print is prepared for the size you choose so the composition still works. If a crop would lose something important I'll say so before printing rather than trim it badly.

How high should I hang a print?

Centre the print at about 145–150 cm from the floor — roughly eye level. Above furniture, leave 15–20 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame.

Desks, shelves, narrow gaps beside a door, or a cluster of small squares.

Three rules of thumb

Two-thirds the furniture

A print above a sofa, bed or console should be roughly two-thirds as wide as the furniture underneath it. Anything smaller looks stranded.

Hang at 145–150 cm

Centre the image at eye level, not at ceiling level. Above furniture, leave 15–20 cm of clear space beneath the frame.

Group small, hang big alone

5×5″ and 8×10″ prints look best in sets of three or more with even 5 cm gaps. A 16×24″ print wants the wall to itself.
